IP Registration & Portfolio Management

IP Registration & Portfolio Management

Why manage intellectual property?

Intellectual Property management gives rise to many questions - such as what if my application for a trademark, design, or patent is rejected? Can my ideas be patented, or are they better protected by copyright or trade secret laws? ... etc. With expert guidance, businesses can seize key opportunities to protect their intellectual property and navigate the complexities of the IP application and management

At NAL Group, we manage your business intellectual property portfolio. Our services include:

  • Assessment of Trademark Application: We evaluate your trademark's chances of registrability and eligibility for famous mark protection, which offers broader safeguards against infringement.
  • Strategic Filing Guidance: We advise on optimal timing for filing industrial designs and other IP rights to ensure maximum protection.
  • Patentability Analysis: We assess whether your innovations meet patent criteria or if they are better suited for copyright or trade secret protection.
  • Portfolio Management: We offer comprehensive IP portfolio management, including tracking renewals, handling petitions and oppositions, and providing watch notices to monitor potential infringements.

Success Stories

CRITICAL 60-DAYS OPPOSITION WINDOW

Under NAL watch service, NAL spotted an attempt by a major local real estate company to register the trademark of an international real estate company, to be able to ride off the fame of the international brand owner. The application was opposed in time to prevent registration. Missing the 60-day opposition window would have meant that the international brand owner will have to go through lengthy litigation to stop the unfair competition posed by the local company. The watch service, coupled with the investigation service, uncovered the plans of 'stealing' the famous brand, enabling NAL to stop it at critical time.

TRADEMARK PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT & NEW MARKETS

A major company in the food and beverages industry had a portfolio of over a thousand trademarks, covering many of its brands that it has registered over the last 30 years. Top management struggled in understanding the value of the portfolio of trademarks and justification of the cost to maintain and renew the registrations. NAL started with an IP Audit to discern and classify the trademarks in classes based on their actual and potential use, market value, and export markets. This enabled top management to take decisions in managing the trademarks portfolio to cut costs, invest in promising brands, and direct funds to register in export markets. Through NAL automated portfolio management service top management could produce instant reports and take appropriate decisions. In one year time, sales increased, and new export markets were opened by expanding the trademark portfolio and weeding out obsolete brands.
